The Return to Craft: JUNTO Wood Design Opens Its First Showroom in Lisbon

A return to craftsmanship: timeless, sustainable, and artisanal wood furniture for modern interiors.

A celebration of craftsmanship, heritage, and the quiet luxury of handmade wood.

In a world increasingly shaped by automation and mass production, Portuguese brand JUNTO Wood Design stands as a poetic counterpoint: a reminder that true luxury lies in craftsmanship, precision, and the quiet beauty of imperfection.

Founded by Zé Maria Teixeira Duarte and Bernardo Lopes, two artisans who left behind their early careers to embrace the demanding, deeply rewarding world of traditional woodworking, JUNTO has just opened its first showroom in Lisbon, right next to the workshop where every piece is born.

The brand also celebrates another milestone: the launch of its new online store, making its timeless creations available to design lovers everywhere.

From Lisbon to the World

What began as a shared workspace between two passionate craftsmen has evolved into one of Portugal’s most respected names in solid wood design..

JUNTO quickly gained international recognition, crafting bespoke furniture for luxury hospitality projects and architectural studios including Nicoline Beerkens, Alicia Murphy, Juliana Cavalcanti, Lachlan Bailey, BLAANC, OpenBook, and Nini Andrade Silva.

Its pieces now inhabit spaces such as Nuua Beach, Azores Wine Company, Fundação Champalimaud, Costa Terra, Adega do Fogo, Chef’s Agency, and The Front Bar.

Among its most striking projects: an 11-meter table that seamlessly embraces the metal columns of the Champalimaud Foundation building, and a wooden box designed as a diplomatic gift from Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Today, 70% of JUNTO’s work is B2B, a testament to the brand’s standing within luxury hospitality and architecture. But the private client segment is growing fast, with customers seeking bespoke designs or signature pieces that reflect the brand’s minimal yet soulful aesthetic.

The Art of Making Things That Last

At the heart of JUNTO’s philosophy is a return to heritage techniques, from Japanese joinery to Shou Sugi Ban carbonization, combined with a contemporary sensibility for proportion and texture.

Each piece is handcrafted in solid, certified wood: oak, Portuguese and American walnut, kambala, rosewood, acacia, chestnut, among others, chosen not only for beauty and durability but for the ability to age gracefully over time.

This commitment to quality and detail transforms each object into what the founders call “heirloom furniture”: pieces designed to outlast generations, carrying both the marks of the craftsman and the memories of the home.

“A Return to Authenticity”

“Opening our first showroom and online store marks a very special moment in JUNTO’s journey,”

say founders Zé Maria and Bernardo.

“In just five years, what started as an exchange of tools and ideas became a project that earned the trust of clients in Portugal and abroad. We’re seeing a clear return to origins: to authenticity, to the appreciation of manual work. That’s where JUNTO lives: in the rigor, the character, and the timelessness of each piece.”

Looking ahead, JUNTO reveals plans for new collections and its first Signature Collection, soon to be available in the Lisbon showroom and online.

A New Chapter for Portuguese Design

With its first physical space open to the public and a digital presence ready to grow internationally, JUNTO Wood Design is shaping a new era of contemporary craftsmanship, rooted in tradition, guided by precision, and driven by the simple beauty of wood.

Because in the end, true luxury isn’t loud — it’s built to last.
