The Sweet Ease Of Summer: Inside H&M Adorables’ Retro-Inspired Kidswear

Thoughtful textures, conscious craftsmanship, and timeless designs for little dreamers.

This summer, H&M Adorables channels the sun-soaked spirit of retro resort life with a collection that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.

From airy crochet sets and crinkled organic cotton, to sun-faded hues and tactile textures, the latest drop is a love letter to carefree days by the coast and childhood summers spent at camp.

Designed for newborns, babies, and kids up to eight, the pieces marry laidback ease with thoughtful details and consciously crafted materials.

As the brand continues to carve out its place in the premium kidswear space, H&M Adorables expands its presence with a new shop-in-shop at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann in Paris.

This is its second major department store location following the launch at Selfridges in London.

The Paris space, dedicated to baby and kidswear, echoes the collection’s refined sensibility with natural materials and a warm, tactile aesthetic.

We met Sofia Löfstedt, Head of Kidswear Design Design at H&M, to talk about inspiration, sustainability, and the quiet charm of elevated everyday essentials..

Lemon Magazine: This summer’s collection taps into retro resort vibes. How did you strike a balance between nostalgic aesthetics and the functionality needed for kids everyday wear?

Sofia Löfstedt: As a designer, I often look at the past to get inspiration and interpret it to make it relevant for today. It is all about the materials, the textures and the details, and making sure the garments are soft, airy and easy to wear.

Lemon Magazine: The collection features crafted details like crochet and embroidery. How important is that sense of “handmade” in today’s fast fashion landscape, especially for childrenswear?

Sofia Löfstedt: This is a very tactile collection and detailing is something that characterises H&M Adorables in general; we like to obsess over every little button! That sense of craftsmanship is really important to us and we see that parents appreciate it as well.

Lemon Magazine: You’ve used materials like terrycloth and organic cotton under GOTS standards. How does this come into your design decisions, from fabric choice to final garment?

Sofia Löfstedt: Comfort, great design and quality materials go hand in hand for me – I wish for them all to be combined and felt in every garment of this collection. That way they can last longer and be passed on from child to child.

Lemon Magazine: With H&M Adorables now launching in Galeries Lafayette, how do you envision the in-store experience enhancing the brand’s premium positioning and storytelling?

Sofia Löfstedt: I am so much looking forward to seeing the collection in such an iconic destination! The shop-in-shop has been beautifully designed with natural materials as an understated, elevated backdrop for the collection; and the separate divisions for baby and childrenswear make it easy for parents to navigate the store.

Lemon Magazine: H&M Adorables is meant to be passed down through generations. How do you design with longevity in mind, when kids grow so fast and trends move even faster?

Sofia Löfstedt: It’s in the combination of a timeless design and quality materials, we use silk, wool and organic cotton, to mention a few. While trends may change, we want to offer timeless design classics that can be passed on when outgrown.

From sun-faded tones to nostalgic textures, H&M Adorables’s latest collection reminds us that childhood is best dressed in comfort, joy, and magic.

With Sofia Löfstedt at the design helm, the brand continues to redefine what everyday kidswear can be: softly elevated, deeply considered, and always ready for play.

Whether worn at the beach, passed down to a sibling, or folded into memory boxes years from now, these pieces are stitched with a story of sun-drenched simplicity and slow, meaningful design.
