Once you know the basics, nothing will stop you.
So, what should you do?
While this might sound strange, nails actually need moisture, just as much as the skin and other parts of the body.
These days, you can get cuticle oils and creams: these contain friendly ingredients, like vitamin E, that you can apply to your nails and make them more supple.
These applications reduce the risk of chipping or breaking quite substantially.
Improving what you eat can change how your nails behave and perform quite substantially.
The best foods are, of course, salmon, nuts, and leafy greens. These all contain nutrients your body needs.
You might also want to look into sources of biotin, like peanut butter – this nutrient is critical for nail and hair modeling during the production and growth phase, so it is well worth looking into.
Filing them down reduces the risk of splitting and helps to keep them intact.
Just make sure you use a fine nail grit of 180 or higher, many traditional nail files are simply too coarse and can actually disrupt the various nail layers, causing them to peel apart.
The idea here is to coat the nails with a special gel that strengthens them and allows them to grow better without breaking. Think of it as a type of nail reinforcement.
Nail strength gels are simple to apply and work quite well when done properly.
You may find that you don’t actually need nail extensions after using them and can opt for a more natural look instead.
While it might seem like a good idea, it’s something you’ll want to avoid if you can.
If you are using cleaning products or detergents, always wear gloves. Don’t allow these substances to come into contact with your nails.
Also, if you do use nail products, ensure they are non-toxic. If they aren’t then, again, you could cause damage.
Constant manicures can weaken them over time.
This is why many salons recommend letting them “breathe.”
The more you can keep them trimmed while doing this, the better.
