Free Willy

Willy is one of my all-time favourite movies, and orcas are my favourite animals. The story of a troubled boy befriending a captive orca whale and making a daring plan to set him free back into the ocean has always stayed with me. Even today, there are still orcas and other animals in captivity, and that deeply saddens me. Freedom, family, and the ability to make our own choices are rights that every being deserves. Let’s keep this fight going. Let’s stay informed and support the incredible people, associations, and foundations that work tirelessly for this cause. Together, we can make a difference.

The Goonies

The Sandlot

A group of neighbourhood kids bond over a shared love of baseball during one unforgettable summer, filled with friendship, adventures, and a legendary encounter with a ferocious dog guarding a prized baseball.

FOR TEENAGERS

10 things I hate about you

In this modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, a high school student is tasked with getting the rebellious older sister of a popular girl to date, leading to unexpected romance and personal growth for both sisters. I absolutely love Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, and their performances in this movie are no exception. Watching this film and dreaming of an imperfect love at first, but where everything falls into place by the end—who hasn’t?

Dangerous Minds

In Dangerous Minds, a former Marine turned teacher takes a job in a tough inner-city school, where she uses unconventional methods to reach her students and inspire them to succeed, ultimately changing their lives in profound ways. When I watched this movie, I used to dream of going to NYC and studying there. The movie touched me so much at that time. The drama, the lessons you take with you into your young adult life—those are unforgettable.

The Craft

In The Craft, a group of high school girls with a shared interest in witchcraft form a powerful bond, only to discover the dangerous consequences of their newfound abilities as they begin to misuse their powers. The film explores themes of friendship, power, and the darker side of desire. I totally fell into the curiosity of mild witchcraft, and my cousins and I must have watched this movie 20 times. I remember buying candles and lighting them with a wish: “Make him fall in love with me, please!” Lol.

Dude, where is my car?

In Dude, Where’s My Car?, two friends wake up with no memory of the previous night and embark on a wild, absurd adventure to find their missing car, uncovering unexpected twists and discovering they were involved in a much bigger and stranger situation than they initially realised. I must confess that untill today I watch clips of this movie “and than?”

Jurassic Park

In Jurassic Park, a group of scientists and visitors are invited to a remote island where a wealthy businessman has created a theme park featuring genetically resurrected dinosaurs. When the park’s security systems fail, chaos ensues as the dinosaurs escape and threaten the survival of everyone on the island. I remember being so curious about this movie! Everything was so advanced at the time—the story, the cinematic techniques used to bring the dinosaurs to life. I mean, what a journey!!!

Mean Girls

In Mean Girls, a teenage girl navigates the social hierarchy of a new high school and becomes entangled with a popular clique known as “The Plastics,” learning the complexities of friendship, gossip, and the consequences of high school drama. The film explores themes of identity, social pressures, and the impact of bullying. I’m sure many of us have had an experience with “The Plastics.” This movie is funny, but more than that, it teaches teens that their actions always bring consequences, for others and themselves.

The Hurricane

In The Hurricane, the true story of boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter is told, focusing on his wrongful imprisonment for a triple murder and his fight for justice. With the help of a young man and his mentor, Carter battles the legal system and racism to clear his name and reclaim his life. In my heart the Oscar goes to Denzel Washington and this movie. I must have watched this film more than 30 times. It shaped a lot of who I am today and how I see the world—an unjust world, and the strength a group of people can have to make a change. Remember, sometimes all it takes is a small gesture, and you’re already making this world a better place.

Coming to America

In Coming to America, an African prince travels to the United States to find a wife who will love him for who he truly is, rather than for his wealth and status. Posing as an ordinary man, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery and love, all while navigating humorous cultural differences and hilarious situations. The king of funny movies! What a classic, and what amazing hours I had laughing with my family while watching this movie. Eddie Murphy’s performance is iconic, and I still laugh every time I watch it. The movie reminds us that true love and happiness come from being ourselves, not from wealth or titles.

Ben-Hur

In Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince is betrayed and falsely accused of treason by his childhood friend, leading to years of suffering and enslavement. After a dramatic journey of revenge and redemption, he ultimately finds forgiveness and redemption through faith and compassion. The film is a sweeping epic about betrayal, revenge, and most importantly, the power of forgiveness in the end.
