A Month of Creative Adventures for Young Explorers

This May, the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) in Lisbon is rolling out an exciting lineup of workshops and activities tailored for young explorers.

From celebrating birthdays with artistic flair to embarking on nocturnal museum adventures, there’s a world of discovery awaiting children of all ages!

Did you know you can throw a memorable birthday party at MAAT? The museum offers a variety of art and science workshops, ensuring a fun-filled celebration with your best friends.

Birthday Workshops: Celebrate Creatively at MAAT

  • When: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of the month

  • Time Slots: 10:00–13:00 or 15:00–18:00

  • Where: MAAT Gallery

Dive into the art of portraiture! Guided by illustrator André Ruivo, children will experiment with various drawing techniques to observe and represent themselves and others, taking inspiration from artist Jeff Wall‘s visual universe.

Ever imagined sleeping over in a museum? From May to September, kids can spend a magical night at Central Tejo, the historic power plant that once illuminated Lisbon.

Embark on a journey through Central Tejo and discover how electricity powered Lisbon in the 20th century.

Transform sunlight into motion! Participants will construct solar-powered cars and race them, exploring the wonders of solar energy in an exciting and educational setting.

Calling all eco-warriors! Engage in discussions about planet preservation, choose causes, and take action. Inspired by various exhibitions, participants will activate ideas through visual arts.

Climate Emergency Workshop: Eco-Warriors

  • Ages: 7–12 years

Explore the intersection of art and technology.

Children will interact with robotised objects and visual programming to create unique machines, using tools like LEGO, micro bit, cables, and LEDs.

A creative experience that brings families together through artistic innovation.

STEAM Art and Robotics Workshop: ArtBot

  • Duration: 120 minutes

A family-friendly exploration and art workshop.

Through a museum-wide scavenger hunt, participants will use imagination and intuition to solve puzzles and challenges posed by various artists and scientists.
