Wheat X Pernille TeisbÆk For BØrnecancerfonden

A limited-edition collection of organic and GOTS-certified children’s clothing in support of Børnecancerfonden

“It’s fantastic that Pernille Teisbæk, in collaboration with Wheat, is launching acapsule collection to support children with cancer.

As a small private foundation with few employees, we rely on support from others, and this initiative by our ambassador, Pernille Teisbæk, is therefore received with great gratitude.

This collection will not only help raise necessary funds but also support theunderstanding of our cause.

Our goal is that no children should die from cancer, and everyone should survive to a life without late effects.”

Marianne Benzon Nielsen, CEO for the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation

All profits will go directly to the foundation, and the aim isto raise over 67.000 euros to the fight against childhood cancer.

The collection consists of t-shirts, sweat styles, denim styles, a pajama, a beanie, and a cap —offering a total unisex look with an intended oversized fit.

All styles are made from organic fabrics, with the t-shirts, sweat styles, pajama, beanie, and cap certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard.

Q&A with Pernille Teisbæk

About the title ‘I Will Do Big Things’:

‘I Will Do Big Things’ is a statement that, for me, is primarily associated with something hopeful, and the message with this particular title is to spark hope amidst the challenge of going through illness.

About being ambassador for The Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation:

If I can help make a difference for children affected by this relentless disease, I am very grateful. I lost my father to cancer when I was 7, and I don’t wish for any family to go through the same.

I think it is particularly important to focus on cancer research, as it is the greatest hope we can give those affected by the illness.

About designing children’s clothing for the first time:

I am a mother of four and always thought it could be fun to design clothes that my own children could wear.

That it was possible, on top of that, to do a collaboration for a cause that is so close to my heart just made so much sense.

Before my father passed away, he gave me a ring with a smiley.

The smiley is now a part of the inspiration behind the design as a small – but for me, very important – detail.

The ideas behind the collection:

Comfort is key. Kids need to be able to move, play, and have fun. Hoodies and sweatpants are favourites among kids and easy to put on as well. Denim is durable and goes for so many occasions.

I think it is important that clothes can be passed on, which is why the collection consists of unisex styles and timeless classics.

For the same reason, I have focused on designs and colors that go well across seasons.

About the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation

The Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation was founded in 1995 by former chief doctor Henrik Hertz.

As a private, independent foundation, the foundation relies 100 % on donations.

The foundation works exclusively for children with cancer and their families, concentrated on three main areas:

  • Research
  • Family support
  • Raising awareness

Childhood cancer is the most frequent medical cause of death for children above 1 year old.

There are 12 different diagnoses, with approximately 200 children diagnosed each year. Around 600 children receive treatment annually.

The cause of most childhood cancers remains unknown. The survival rate is approximately 85 %, with around 5000 survivors.

The foundation is a frontrunner in childhood cancer research. Between 2016 and 2022, €35 million was allocated to research.

It is the single organization that has funded the most research projects within childhood cancer in Denmark.

The foundation has established six professorships dedicated to childhood cancer research and allocated €2.4 million for strategic research in brain tumors and immunotherapy.

The foundation offers a range of services to support children with cancer and their families.

These include psychological counseling, rehabilitation camps, and grants that provide financial assistance to help families cope with the challenges of childhood cancer.
