Founded in 2016 by designers Vanessa Yuan and Joris Vanbriel, this Antwerp-based brand marries aesthetic appeal with environmental responsibility, offering pieces that are as stylish as they are sustainable.
EcoBirdy‘s journey began with a two-year research project focused on recycling plastic consumer goods, particularly toys – supported by the European Union Commission, this initiative led to the creation of ecothylene®, a unique, recyclable material crafted from repurposed household plastics.
The result is a collection of furniture that not only boasts ergonomic design but also showcases the beauty of upcycled materials through distinctive patterns reminiscent of terrazzo or marble.
Initially focusing on children’s furniture, EcoBirdy introduced pieces like the Charlie Chair, Luisa Table, Rhino Lamp, and Kiwi Container.
These designs serve an educational purpose, engaging young minds in the importance of sustainability.
The brand didn’t stop there; recognizing the broader appeal of their designs, EcoBirdy expanded into adult home décor with the Lounge Collection and Tableware, featuring items such as the Richard Armchair, Judy Side Table, Frost Table, and Mabo Plate. This expansion underscores the versatility of upcycled plastic waste in meeting diverse design needs.
In honor of the International Day of Forests on March 21, EcoBirdy is set to launch a limited edition ‘Forest‘ color for their iconic Charlie Chair.
This vibrant green hue pays homage to the lush beauty of forests, serving as a reminder of nature’s richness and inspiring children to explore the outdoors with curiosity.
EcoBirdy exemplifies how innovative design can address environmental challenges, transforming plastic waste into functional art pieces that enrich our living spaces.
By choosing EcoBirdy, consumers not only invest in unique, stylish furniture but also contribute to a more sustainable future.
